Text Messaging Terms of Service

Scranton School District Text Messaging Terms of Service Effective date: September 30, 2026

  1. Program description Scranton School District (“SSD,” “we,” “us,” or “the District”) offers an optional text-messaging program so families, staff, and other people who ask to be contacted can receive District messages by SMS or MMS. Messages are sent using Zoom Phone and related messaging providers. The program is for operational and informational messages from the District, such as school closures, delays, early dismissals, and weather notices; emergency and safety alerts; attendance, transportation, and building notices; event, meeting, and appointment reminders; and other District information the recipient has agreed to receive.

This program is not a marketing or lead-generation service. We do not sell or rent mobile numbers, and we do not share text-message opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing.

  1. Consent You will receive messages only if you opt in. Opt-in may be given on a District web form, on a paper form, verbally to an authorized District employee, or by texting a published keyword to the District number. Consent is for Scranton School District only. It is not consent for any other organization to text you, and it is not a condition of enrollment, employment, or receiving District services, except where a specific notice is required for safety.

By opting in, you confirm that you are the subscriber or customary user of the mobile number you provide, or that you have authority to consent for that number.

  1. Message frequency Message frequency varies. You may receive occasional informational messages, and more messages during weather events, emergencies, or other time-sensitive District operations. Message frequency depends on the notices you opted into and on District activity.
  2. Cost Message and data rates may apply. Scranton School District does not charge a fee to join this program. Your wireless carrier’s message and data rates, if any, are your responsibility.
  3. How to opt out You can cancel at any time. Reply STOP to any District message, or text STOP to the District number you received messages from. You may also reply STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT. After you opt out, you will receive one confirmation message, and we will not send further program messages to that number unless you opt in again. To opt back in, text START or UNSTOP to the same number, or submit a new opt-in.
  4. Help Reply HELP to any District message for help, or contact the District at the phone number or email published on www.scrsd.org. Support is available during regular District business hours, except for emergency alerts, which are sent as needed.
  5. Privacy Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it. We do not share or sell consumer personal information, including phone numbers, to third parties or affiliates for marketing or lead generation. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except with carriers and platform providers (including Zoom) solely to deliver the messages you agreed to receive.
  6. Supported carriers and delivery The program is offered on major U.S. wireless carriers. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed and can be affected by your carrier, device, number changes, network conditions, or content filtering.
  7. Your responsibilities You agree to provide a correct mobile number and to tell us if that number changes. You will not use the program to send unlawful, abusive, or misleading messages. We may suspend messaging to a number that is reassigned, that replies STOP, or that generates carrier complaints.
  8. Changes We may update these terms by posting a new version on the District website. The effective date above will change when we do. If a change materially affects consent, we will request new consent where required by law or carrier rules.
  9. Contact Scranton School District Website: https://www.scrsd.org Text help: reply HELP to the District number, or use the contact information on the District website.

These terms govern the District text-messaging program only. They do not replace Board policy, the Parent/Student Handbook, or the District’s other website terms.
