Privacy Policy
Scranton School District Privacy Policy Effective date: September 30, 2026
Scranton School District (“SSD,” “we,” “us,” or “the District”) respects the privacy of students, families, staff, and other people who contact us. This policy describes personal information we collect on our website and through our text-messaging program, how we use it, and when we share it.
Mobile information, phone numbers, and text-message consent
Scranton School District does not share or sell consumer personal information (including phone numbers) to third parties or affiliates for marketing or lead generation.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, excluding aggregators and providers of the text message services (such as mobile carriers and Zoom) solely as needed to deliver messages you agreed to receive.
We use mobile numbers only to send the District messages you opted into, to confirm opt-in or opt-out, and to respond to HELP requests. We do not use text-message opt-in lists for advertising, and we do not transfer those lists to another organization so that organization can market to you.
Information we collect Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, school, and role (parent, guardian, staff, or other contact), if you submit a form or opt into messages; the mobile number you provide, your consent record, and the date, method, and wording of that consent; message metadata needed to deliver texts, such as delivery status, STOP and HELP replies, and carrier error codes; information you include in a message you send us; and basic website logs, such as browser type, pages visited, and IP address, from our site host.
Student education records are governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Board policy. This page does not reduce those rights. A phone number collected only to send an opted-in District notice is not sold and is not shared for marketing.
How we use information We use information to send text messages you requested or agreed to receive, including closures, delays, safety alerts, and operational notices; to honor STOP, HELP, and related keywords; to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the website and the messaging program; to meet legal, carrier, and Campaign Registry requirements for U.S. application-to-person texting; and to respond to a request you send us.
We do not use phone numbers or text-message consent for third-party marketing or lead generation.
Information we share We share personal information only as described here. Zoom, mobile carriers, and messaging aggregators receive the phone number and message content as needed to route and deliver the text. They may not use that opt-in data for their own marketing. Vendors who host the website or store District records may process information under contract, only to provide the service to the District. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or a request from a regulator or carrier compliance review. We may share information with emergency responders when needed to address an imminent threat.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share or sell consumer personal information, including phone numbers, to third parties or affiliates for marketing or lead generation. Consent you give the District cannot be used by another business to text you.
Information security We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to a public school district to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Retention We keep opt-in and opt-out records for as long as needed to operate the program, honor your choices, and meet carrier and legal recordkeeping requirements. If you reply STOP, we keep the opt-out record so we do not text that number again unless you opt in again. Other website inquiries are kept under the District’s record schedule.
Your choices Reply STOP to end text messages. Reply HELP for help. You may also contact the District through www.scrsd.org to update or delete a number you submitted on a form. Stopping texts does not by itself delete an education record.
Children District text programs are directed to parents, guardians, staff, and other adults who opt in. We do not knowingly collect mobile numbers from children for marketing. Student information is handled under FERPA and Board policy.
Changes We may update this policy by posting a new version on the District website and changing the effective date. The non-sharing commitment for mobile numbers and text-message consent will remain in place for as long as the District operates this messaging program.
