Message from the Superintendent

Dear Scranton School District Community,

In respect to the recent comments regarding the diversity of our student body, I want to make sure all our stakeholders clearly understand the position of the Scranton School District on this issue.

The Scranton School District is composed of a diverse population. Our diversity is our strength and should be celebrated, because it enriches the educational experience for our students and the adults who work with them. Our schools must be a place where students can learn acceptance and experience a sense of belonging.

The Scranton School District has over 9,000 students. Our students come from over 64 countries, and speak over 50 different languages. We cherish the varied perspectives and experiences these children and their families bring to our community, both in our school buildings and in our city at large.

As the leader of this district, I want to assure our community that the Scranton School District Administration has a full commitment to foster a culturally responsive environment in which our students may learn and grow. I personally want to affirm that we welcome, value, respect and love every single student in the Scranton School District Community. In accordance with our Board of Education policies, we will not tolerate any form of bullying or discrimination.
