A Message From The Principal
Welcome to the West Scranton
Intermediate School. The school is located in the west side section of the
city of Scranton. Our feeder school boundaries include students from the
elementary schools of Lincoln-Jackson, John Marshall, Charles Sumner, and
Frances Willard.
As an intermediate school, our school services students in grades six, seven, and eight. The facility reflects three instructional areas with classrooms (Lambda House, Theta House, Phi House), a full size gym, an adapted gym, a regulation swimming pool, a planetarium, computer resource area, and a library. The school also has a consumer science area, art room, computer room, shop areas, and music classrooms.
The curriculum reflects a strong academic program at each grade level which includes Reading, Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies. The educational program is enhanced through a wide range of Related Arts experiences for students that include Foreign Languages (German, French, and Spanish), Art , Shop (Wood and Metal), Music (Chorus, Band, and Orchestra), Consumer Science (Sewing and Cooking), and Computers.
Students have an opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities: Student Council, Art Club, Yearbook, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, and Tutoring. At the seventh and eighth grade levels, students also have the opportunity to participate in PIAA sports which include Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball.
The faculty, staff, and administration of the West Scranton Intermediate School are dedicated in providing students with quality educational programs and experiences in a positive, safe learning environment. Our motto is “West Is Best!”
