All subjects evaluated with numerical grades are included for ranking purpose.
Honors classes(5%) and advanced placement classes(8%) are weighted in determining class
rank.
Curriculum
Information
Scranton High School recognizes individual differences in its students. In an effort
to increase student interest and success, some classes are assembled on the basis of
ability and achievement. Courses may be selected from one or the following programs:
Advanced Placement (AP) -
Courses are offered in U.S. History, Chemistry,
English Composition and Literature, European History and Calculus.
Courses are offered in U.S. History, Chemistry, English

designed to prepare students for the AP examinations and accelerated college
courses.
Honors (H) - Student selection for this program is based upon ability,
standardized test scores, past grades, and teacher evaluations of creativity, interest and
initiative.
Regular - This program serves students with diverse academic skills and
goals.
Developmental - This program meets the goals of students who function
below grade level in courses of the standard curriculum. Full credit is awarded for
successful completion of developmental courses.
The Scranton School District has adopted the attached school uniform policy for grades 9-12. The uniform may be worn in any combination. School uniforms are mandatory and the uniform policy will be strictly enforced pursuant to the attached discipline guidelines. Note: This policy was updated and Board approved on May 23, 2005. All changes or updates are underlined.
General Information
Ø All students must attend school each day in compliance with the High School Dress Code Policy.
Ø Embroidery/monogramming with “SHS, WSHS, KNIGHTS, INVADERS, SSD, SCRANTON SCHOOL DISTRICT or other respective school logo” are optional.
Ø Small company trademarks, ( no longer than 3” inches square), emblem, tags, or logos are allowed on clothing.
Ø All clothing pieces must be appropriately sized for the child, that is, they must be no more than one regular size larger than that student actually measures. Extra wide, extra full, extra long, baggy or sagging pants or shorts are not acceptable.
Ø All colors must be solid, that is without patterns, designs, checks, slogans, etc. A stripe or alternate color on the collar or on the cuff of the sleeve of shirt will be allowed.
Ø Clothing may be purchased at store/vendor or your choice, so long as they conform to this High School Dress Code Policy.
Ø Non-uniform day fundraising is limited to two (2) days per school year.
Ø Shirts should be tucked in.
Amendments
The vendor or any individual school may not amend this policy unilaterally. The School Board or Central Administration must approve all changes to this High School Dress Code Policy.
Subsidy
Families may qualify under certain income guidelines for uniform subsidy. Please see your Principal for further information.

Note: All button down shirts must be buttoned except for the top two buttons.

Note: If student wears black pants, his/her shirt must be a contrasting color. No Black On Black.
Articles of Non-Compliance
Ø No cargo pants, shorts or Capri’s
Ø No flip flop type shoes.
Ø No baggie/skateboard pants
Ø No denim tops or bottoms or look alike denim/corduroy stretch pants
Ø No medical type scrubs allowed
Ø No cotton or velvet type sweatpants will be allowed
Ø No spandex pants
Ø No stirrup pants
Ø No mini/micro skirts
Ø No hats, caps, headbands or bandanas
Ø No bare midriff or low cut scoop neck tops
Ø No tank tops, tube tops, halter tops or sleeveless shirts
Ø No t-shirts, long or short sleeved, will be permitted
Ø No off the shoulder garments
Ø No sheer clothing
Ø No chains, dog collars, or spike bracelets/necklaces
Ø No exposed body piercing jewelry, including tongue rings (Safety Hazards)
Ø No clothing or articles deemed to be offensive of sexually suggestive, condoning violence, drug/alcohol/tobacco use, suicide, or vulgar language
Ø No shorts that are more than five inches above the knee
Ø No displaying of undergarments at anytime
Discipline Guidelines
All students will attend school in uniform. The chart below is a guide for violation of the uniform policy.
GRADES 9-12
1st Level of Offense The student will be assigned one detention. Also, at the discretion of the principal, the student may be retained in the office or placed in “In-School Suspension” until the parent/guardian provides a proper change of clothing.
2nd Level of Offense The student will be assigned one detention. Also, at the discretion of the principal, the student may be retained in the office or placed in “In-School Suspension” until the parent/guardian provides a proper change of clothing.
3rd Level of Offense The student will be assigned one detention. Also, at the discretion of the principal, the student may be retained in the office or placed in “In-School Suspension” until the parent/guardian provides a proper change of clothing.
4th Level of Offense At the discretion of the principal, all subsequent violations may result in loss of privileges and/or Out-Of-School Suspension.
Note: When possible, the school will attempt to provide a student who is wearing a non-compliant top with a top that is in compliance.
