Exploring New Beginnings

Voting means a new beginning to me. Other countries don’t have our voting rights To vote for who you think is right is such a privilege. Intelligent people always vote. No one can take my vote away from me. Going to the voting polls gives me a thrill.

Hooray for the U.S.A.

The Sad Little Ant

Once there was a sad little ant. He was sad because he was green! All the other ants made fun of him. All kids who saw him tried to step on him. His life was the most awful in the world, (or at least that’s what he thought).

One day the ant thought he would solve all his problems by running away. So that’s what he did. He packed up and went. He hiked for about two miles, then it got dark so he pulled a blanket out of his bag and went to sleep.

He woke up bright and early the next day delighted with his idea of running away. He hiked a long way and saw many strange animals just like himself.

He saw a ladybug with one wing, so she had to walk. A bear with no claws that the forest animals were making fun of because no one thought he was scary. He even saw a rabbit who’s ears pointed down instead of up. Whenever she tried to hop she would trip and tumble.

The ant realized that he was not the only strange animal in the world. He decided to go home. The other ants made fun of him and kids still tried to step on him. He wasn’t normal but, because he knew he wasn’t alone, he was happy!!

THE BRACELET

One day when I got up, I was missing my gold bracelet. I always kept it on my dresser, but where could it be? I bet one of my sisters took my bracelet! Kim, Tara, did you take my bracelet?

It’s gone! No Jim we didn’t take it. I wonder if my parents moved
Well if they didn’t take it then who did? They didn’t see it either.
Well, somebody took it, and I will find out who. Well, I asked
everybody in the house and I looked everywhere, but I can’t find it.
There’s the thief! The cat must be taking my things. I will follow
her and maybe she will lead me to my bracelet. Hey, she’s going
to her Kitty-Condo! Ah Ha, she is the thief! I cracked the case!
Here is my bracelet, and my sock, my ink pen, my clove, my hat,
my ring, my ribbon, my ball, my scraf, etc., etc., etc.

Dog’s Friends

Dog was laying in his bed when- knock, knock, knock went the door, It was little Pup. He had his helmet and bat. Dog woke up and he opened the door to see who was there. He saw Little Pup. "Hello, Dog, I’m here to play with you in your garden. Do you want to play?" "Yes, Little Pup, let me get my outfit on. Come on in Little Pup."

They look out the window and saw Turtle and Hare running to his home. Then they saw frog hopping to Dog’s home. Dog was happy that all of his friends were coming to see him. Oops! I forgot about Bear. Bear was whistling long with his basket in his hand. His basket had good food in it. Dog invited them in for a little snack, but then he thought about seeing Grandma Dog. Her home was right near Dog’s home and they went to visit her. Grandma Dog heard them speaking outside. She invited them in and they sat down and had some tea and talked. They talked about kind of bad things and kind of good things.

Then, Oops! Dog forgot to bring Little Pup’s bat and mitt. So he went home to get it. On the way he met Mouse. Mouse was a very good friend to him. Mouse had some Stories he was going to write at Dog’s home. So Dog let him in because soon it would get dark. Then all of Dog’s friends went back to Dog’s home. They loved having Mouse with them. Mouse was generous and kind. It got very dark and all the animals could not go to their houses so they stayed at Dog’s house. They all worked on Mouse’s story. Rabbit thought of the most. Turtle was a little slow getting to Dog’s house. But Little Pup went to help him because he was very old. Much of those turtles were not that fast too, but Turtle told about a little tiny turtle who got very strong and fast. That famous turtle is the one in the story about "Tortoise and the Here".

All of those animals got together and thought of stories about their adventures. It was morning and all the friends went home. Mouse was happy with all the help. Dog said, "Good-bye."

The Race

Once upon a time there was a guy named Paul and a guy named Jake and another one named Steve. Paul is a coach for the Panthers, a Midget Football team. Jake sells sport equipment and Steve sells football cleats and team coats.

One day Paul had a problem. He didn’t have enough money to pay for all team’s equipment. Paul sat in a chair trying to think of a way to get the money. Then Paul had a idea! He would get a trophy for the winner. The money from the race would be used for sports equipment for the team . Paul liked his idea, but he needed help. Paul called his friends jake and Steve to make posters and cards. They helped him hang posters on doors and windows of schools, grocery stores and other businesses.

People started calling up to sign up for the race. Paul asked Steve and Jake to help him set up the race course. Steve called the police to help make sure no one got hurt on the street while the race was being held. Jake called the hospital to get volunteer nurses and doctors, in case someone got hurt. They made a checkered flag to wave to start and finish the race and decorated the finish line with banners and streamers. Everything was set for the big race. Lots of people signed up and they got a trophy donated by Steve’s sports equipment store.

Race time and Paul is at the starting line with his checkered flag. Paul yells, "On mark, get ready, set, GO!" The racers are off! Jake and Steve had entered the race. Jake was in the lead and Steve was behind him. All of a sudden, Jake tripped and fell. Paul called for the doctor. They ran and got Jake off the field with a stretcher. The doctor reported that Jake had a broken leg. Everyone in the crowd felt bad. The race must go on! Steve took Jake’s place in the lead. The other runner in back of him pulled up beside him. They were running neck and neck. Steve saw the Finish Line up ahead. He burst ahead of the runner beside him. Steve won!

Paul was very excited to give Steve the trophy. Steve was proud to have won the race, but he felt bad about Jake. Paul and Steve went to the hospital to see Jake. Jake Was happy that Steve won the race. Paul exclaimed, "Thanks for helping me with the race. Now we have enough money for sports equipment for the Midget Football team. Jake insisted, "Well will have to have another race next year, so I have a chance to win the trophy." The three friends laughed and everyone agreed that it was a good Idea to have an annual race for equipment money.
