Superintendent Hosts Student Leadership Conference

Today, Dr. Kirijan held a student leadership conference that was represented by students from all intermediate and high schools. The purpose of the meeting was to hear about Scranton School District experiences firsthand from students. The district will use this collaborative feedback in order to make its programs and courses more relevant and responsive to the interests, needs, and learning styles of all students.

Santa Parade Fun!

The Scranton High School Knight Rhythms again participated in this year's Santa Parade, belting out some holiday classics with their incredible voices. They were accompanied by Dr. Kirijan, who may or may not have stretched her own vocal cords during a fun-filled morning!

Way to go, Knight Rhythms!

Superintendent Attends Scranton High School's "Women of Lockerbie" Production

The Women of Lockerbie show is about a mother from New Jersey who roams the hills of Lockerbie Scotland, looking for her son’s remains, which were lost in the crash of Pan Am 103. She meets the women of Lockerbie, who are fighting the US Government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane’s wreckage. Determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love, the women want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victim’s families. A poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate.

Prescott Elementary Donates Handmade Blankets to Homeless Veterans

Prescott students from Ms.Cadden and Mrs.Ghergo's classes recently spent two days learning how to knit with SSD special education diagnostician, Eileen Higginson. Today, St. Francis Commons Veterans Center supervisor, Ryan Pollock, picked up the blankets and will be distributing them to homeless veterans in need. The center assists hundreds of area homeless veterans ranging in age from 21-90.

Mr. Pollock was kind enough to answer dozens of questions about military service that our kids had. Ms. Cadden and Mrs. Ghergo have stressed the importance of honoring our veterans' sacrifices and tied these lessons into fostering a sense of service to the local community.

After receiving the blankets, Mr. Pollock was presented with dozens of handwritten cards that Mrs. Donnelly's class had made for a Veterans Day project.

Way to go, Prescott!!

Superintendent Hosts Business Partners' Breakfast

This morning at West Scranton High School, Dr. Kirijan hosted 17 community partners who represent each school. It was the first time business/organization partners met with their principals. Each group discussed plans for the year that will help schools achieve academic goals and build strong businesses.

These ScrantonOne partnerships give students a sense of importance and accountability within the community, as well as give participating members a sense of personal involvement in District outcomes.
